I called this pic Tribute because it's a kind of montage of three things :
- The background is a painting from Hiroshige Andô called "Dangerous surf below the Satta Pass near Yui" - Meïji's kimono pattern and the pattern in the "sun" form are made from pics I found in a book called "Opulence", which introduce the work of Ichiku Kubota, a master in creating and dying kimono patterns. I also took one of the pics of the book for reference for Meïji's position. In the original pic, the male model had a crown, and no obi ; I kept these details. - Some manga screentones... The only thing I 100% created and drew here is Meïji, a character from my online comic Heredity. I wanted to give a highly "japanese-style" atmosphere to this drawing, and put my own touch to it with a character not japanese-like at all... *************************** Meïji © me Line : Pencil Colors : Photoshop + see above. |

Our objective is to recognise deviants who deserve more recognition and to feature deviations with less than 10 original comments. And I really think the backgorund and the pattern suits him, at least his attitude, since his face's expression [and pose *nods*] makes him stand out a lot from the rest of the piece and it drew my attention. [and the outline
And the sun-shaped pattern help a lot since it makes him look more imposing...in commant *grin* And it's orange ^^ I like orange.
I like the drawing with it's combination of soft [from the background and colours and the flowers and his kimono] and hard [jyeah, the guy looks really cute...and his crown *nods*]
